ECE Research Team’s Prototype selected as the Best Prototype of the Year

The prototype of a Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Display, developed by Prof. Hoi Sing KWOK, Prof. Abhishek SRIVASTAVA and their research team in collaboration with AUO Taiwan, a display manufacturer, was selected as the best prototype of the year during the SID Display Week held in Los Angeles from May 20 – May 25, 2018. The HKUST team also included an ECE PhD student Liangyu SHI and a technical staff Alex CHEUNG,

SID Display Week is the biggest and most important conference in the area of Display Research. The SID Display week has a special section for the innovative technologies for displays called the I-Zone where the leading Industries and Universities get a chance to showcase their latest technologies. This year 50 companies were selected to showcase their prototypes at the I-Zone. From among these, the I-Zone committee, which is composed of many experts from various areas of displays, selected the Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Display to receive the award.

SID's annual Display Week Symposium brings together hundreds of speakers for both oral and poster paper presentations. Papers are solicited in all aspects of motion-image technology, including device technology (LCD, OLED, projector, etc.) and the emergence of Wearable and Vehicle Displays. Papers are also solicited in the area of technology development that enables lower-power-consumption and higher-performance displays for mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, e-Books, etc.).
