Abstract

Various Flat panel displays, such as LCD and OLED, have been developed and used in many of the different applications. The image quality of FPDs is now approaching the limitation of human’s visual ability. The display really make our life become much more convenient, however, it might also damage our eyes. Many eye diseases, such as myopia, presbyopia, glaucoma, and macular degenerations, are having a trend towards the younger age.

In the presentation, several highlight approaches of my prior works in the LCD, AR/VR, and bio-medical field will be first introduced. Followed by a few of the in-progress developments.

Finally, for the next decade, I believe displays will not only displaying the image, but also integrated many sensors, micro-optical components, and circuits in it. By sensing the ambient, user’s visual condition, and operating contents; the display image can be intelligently adjusted to protect the user’s eyes. Additionally, by further integrating wearable sensors, we can have many bio-medical applications to upgrade the value of a display to beyond the display.
